Catalyst Black is a free action game from Super Evil Megacorp, known for the hit multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) Vainglory. In this new MOBA experience, you can play games with up to 10 vs 10 players. It combines technology and magic, action and mystery. Your players wield weapons like guns and swords, each being capable of drawing power from ancient masks. 

Players who loved Mobile Legends Bang Bang or League of Legends: Wild Rift will enjoy Catalyst Black, especially if they prefer all-out battles instead of lane-pushing. They can also transform into primal forms, large monsters from another realm.

A fast-paced action experience

The third-person view in Catalyst Black is largely reminiscent of existing MOBA games, although its map style is closer to Pokemon UNITE. Instead of pushing lanes and destroying enemy bases, players score by taking control of specific points in the map as well as killing enemies. It also allows for different gameplay experiences thanks to different characters capable of temporarily becoming primal monsters with boosts in health and attack.

One unique feature in this game is its drop-in, drop-out design. You can join and leave a game in progress anytime you want. With this mechanic, you can essentially play for five minutes or five hours depending on you. This eliminates the hassle of AFK players disrupting the gameplay flow. Also, despite being a team match, you are largely scored individually, which means your performance will determine rewards and experience.

As you play more, you get to unlock additional gear that will help you create an optimized loadout suited for you — whether you’d rather snipe from a distance or take out enemies in close range as a melee assassin. The only limitation in this game is its matchmaking system. Since the game you enter is randomized, chances are you face players who are far more experienced and have better load-outs.

Fun for solo or party players

At first glance, Catalyst Black feels like the Pokemon UNITE for a wider market, using general action and fantasy elements that players in general can relate to and enjoy playing. It even has unique features such as the ability to transform into a monster and the ability to join and leave games whenever you want, making it ideal for people who can’t commit to a standard MOBA game.
